Let’s imagine one day at the office…
You are in front of a document in other language you understand every sentence
and idea, so you start translating it. After a few lines you realize that this
task is taking you more time than you thought and unfortunately this is not the
first time that it happens…This peaceful day starts to become a nightmare and
maybe you will have to stay a few more hours at the office doing this
extra-work…
Sounds familiar? If so, maybe it is time
to hire a professional translator. As in every job, it is not easy to find the
right person. On the internet, you will find hundreds of resumes and a hundred
more of recommendations. Now, hiring a capable translator is always a
painstakingly decision, but don’t worry… I’m here to give you a piece of advice
about the main qualities that a good translator should have. Let’s start…
First of all, a good translator must
be qualified: it is not the same to be an English/French/German native speaker
than a professional translator. While translating, the linguistic and cultural knowledge
really makes the difference.
Secondly, different texts require
different translators. If you have a medical research paper the best option is
to look for a translator specialized in medical issues. Yes, we enjoy multitasking
and we are always willing to expand our knowledge; however, this process takes
time. If you are in a hurry, you should prefer a specialized translator. It may
be more expensive, but the results and required time will talk by themselves.
Finally, in any case scenario, if
the offer is too tempting, it has everything you would imagine: low prices,
short period of time, specialized, and so on and so forth, remember: “If it’s
too good to be true, it is probably a lie”. Sometimes clients could be a little
afraid of prices proposed by translators, but you should consider that as professionals
we take our jobs very seriously. Perhaps, you will find a cheaper deal for the
same document, but you may be taking the risk of giving your money to somebody who
does not really know what they are doing.
We are young translators, and maybe
we do not have much practical expertise; however, we are well trained in
different fields and are willing to provide you with a professional and
accurate translation.
